Unzen Iwaki Ryokan is one of the oldest Onsen Ryokan in Unzen. In 1887, the Takaki Hotel opened in Unzen as a resort exclusively for foreigners, until the early Taisho period, when the hotel moved to its current location, taking the name Iwakiya Ryokan.

In 1965, the hotel was renamed Iwaki Hotel after the annex was added, and in 2002, rooms with open-air baths were installed. In the same year, the hotel was renamed Unzen Iwaki Ryokan.
